Basically, the folks at The Singing Machine took out the hardware from their karaoke machines that control the echo and put it in a standalone box. For the price, it's not bad. The echo is standard karaoke echo, so there's no option to tweak it except to turn a knob that makes it sound more saturated as you do so. Considering that the next level box for getting any kind of reverb costs 80 bucks, this one does the job. You don't have to use it for your DVD player either.The box is plastic, but pretty compact so dropping it probably won't do too much damage to it. The microphone is the kind of mic you'd expect to come with a karaoke machine. The cord is attached permanently to the mic which classifies it as a 'toy' mic. You can at least plug in 2 mics into the box. One major drawback is that you can't control the levels separately for both inputs. Just one volume control, so there's no balancing if one singer is louder than another. If you want echo on the cheap, you could do worse. There's just no other piece of hardware out there that does what this thing does for this price. Reminds me of the old Realistic reverb boxes they used to sell back in the 80's-90's.
