The MXL 3000 Mic Bundle includes the MXL 3000 microphone, a 25' Mogami mic cable, shock mount, and matching pop filter. The MXL 3000 has a large 25 mm gold sputtered capsule and an FET preamplifier with premium components within the signal path. Its transformer coupled output is very reminiscent of the circuit designs found in early British recording consoles. When used for recording vocals the microphone has amazing clarity and warmth. It is a stunningly detailed microphone that is also appropriate for instrument miking, especially of string and wind instruments.

I purchased this mic are 06/2008 for something like two hundred bucks just to get an idea of how the chinese made mics compare to my audiophile mics. First off, let's get things straight. This mic is not a competitor for a Neumann U47, U67, U46, or U87. They're in VERY different leagues. It is excatly what you would think of a mic this inexpensive however, the quality is good and the build is bulletproof. I am pleasantly surprised at how often I use this mic. It's unusually sweet for acoustic guitars at 3 feet away. Be careful of proximity with this one and use a good tube pre with it and you'll be good to go. The tube pre will warm this one right up. There is a bump on mine around the low mids that I always have to dial down slightly but it's easy to back off the bombasticness with a good channel strip. I really enjoy this mic.
